So one of my parents has asked me to be their LPA. Fine.
Received the paperwork and read the bit that says who their certificate provider (the person who signs to confirm that they are of sound mind/weren't being pressured into doing it etc) cannot be. This includes 'partner, girlfriend or boyfriend, even if they don't live together'.
Person who has signed to be their certificate provider is a person who has been a huge part of my relative's life for over ten years. Although they've never lived together and never refer to each other as partner/girlfriend/boyfriend or anything like that. Admittedly I don't know the details of the nature of their relationship and don't really want to (really really don't want to think about my parents' sex lives!), but I know they go on hols together to small caravans etc, which I assume involve sleeping in a bed together. I've also been on a break with them in a holiday let where they shared a double bedroom.
I have to have a witness countersign my parts of the form. I'm planning to ask a neighbour who's a JP. But I'm not sure I'm comfortable with asking them knowing what I do about the certificate provider's status.
Should any shit hit fans over this, would I (and, more importantly, my neighbour) have plausible deniability?
TIA.
