Can I put named brands in a meal plan book?

e.g if I want to create a book with a meal plan for a high fibre diet can I put:

2 slices of ‘whoever’s wholemeal bread’.

It won’t really work if I can’t do this as the idea is to feature meal plans with the recommended amount of e.g fibre and that’s not possible if I can’t put specific products.

Please can anyone advise whether this would breach any type of copyright law? Thank you.

I can’t advise you on copyright law, but I wouldn’t do this anyway because it will date your book. Brands change.

No idea on the legal side but I would specify '2 slices with at least x g of fibre per 100 g' to allow flexibility.

(I write scientific and medical text for a living)

Yes to op saying dating your book, also brands frequently change recipes and stop certain lines , so something to bear in mind . But to your original question you could probably check with one directly on their website ? I would have thought they would be pleased to have their product recommended ! So presumably not a problem .

Thank you for the replies.

I’m mainly doing it for myself and then I would like to publish it on Amazon.

I’m prediabetic and been struggling with meal plans. It’s hard putting all the information together and following all the guidelines. So I’m going to do that and I think other people will also find it useful too.

I’m not bothered about making money from it, I will probably offer it for free. It certainly won’t be a glossy hardback! For one thing, I’m not a professional cook or nutritionist. I’m just a normal busy mum trying to my best to follow the NHS guidelines.
