SOLICITORS

I have a Solicitor and he updated my will but since then I want to include other things like what my wishes are, what I want done with my ashes and Organ Donation. I have tried to get in touch with him but all I get is an answering machine saying there is no-one in the office to take my call and please leave a message and someone will get back to you but they never did. I eventually managed to locate him after months of trying, I explained what I was after and he said he would phone me in a few days but that hasn't happened. I want to get my will in order before anything happens to me, what can I do about it😡

Take your money to a solicitor who does want your business.

Hi KangarooKenny, I have paid him for all his work up to date but like I said, there is a wee drop more to add

Those sorts of things don't go in a will. Wills cover finances not your request for ashes / organ donation. Those things you should inform your next of kin about. Give them it in writing if you wish.

Have you got a copy of the Will? If so then take that to another solicitor and get a new Will prepared. They can collect in your current Will from your old solicitor.

Wishes such as organ donation or burial wishes can still go in Wills, but can also go in a side letter to accompany the Will. If you are going to want to update your wishes then a side letter might be more flexible.

If he wanted the work he would have got back to you. Definitely go elsewhere.

Putting your wishes about your ashes in your will does not make them legally binding. I would deal with your ashes by leaving a letter setting out your wishes and making sure those who are likely to deal with your funeral arrangements are aware of your wishes and the whereabouts of the letter.

Now that you are presumed to have consented to organ donation, you don't need to do anything if you want your organs used. If you don't want your organs donated, you should record your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register rather than putting it in your will. It is possible that it would be too late by the time anyone reads your will.

Agree with posters above - you can put wishes about ashes etc in a side letter. Send the firm a copy to be stored with your will but also make sure your family know as they may not see your Will straight away. No need to pay for another solicitor but if this solicitor is an executor you may want to change that. And also let your family know not to instruct this form to deal with your estate. That is where solicitors make money from doing Wills and so this will hot them I'm the bottom line, when a quick call could have dealt with your query
