Dry Cleaners have ruined bedspread and say it’s not their provlem

Any advice gratefully received. I dropped our bedspread to the dry cleaners last week to have it freshened up before being put away for spring. I collected it earlier this week, unpacked it to check once I got home, thank goodness, and the colour has been ruined. The pictured I’ve included aren’t a shadow, the colour has been darkened in some places and lightened in others. I took it back after calling them, and they’ve just called me back to say they’ve cleaned it again, it’s still the same and basically you luck as they’ve followed the ‘dry clean only’ instructions. Apparently their insurance will only pay out if I get some kind of expensive test done myself web proves they’ve damaged it. Surely this can’t be right? They’ve not even offered me the original cleaning cost back. I said I’ll call them back on Monday after looking into my rights here. It was only bought in October and wasn’t cheap Sad

If the dry cleaner have dry cleaned it according to the label (check the type of solvent used). It probably isn’t there fault. Ask if the used any spot treatments on it, if they have have just cleaned it in the solvent as per the label, they have done nothing wrong.

You may be best contacting the manufacturers as the fabric may not be suitable for dry cleaning.

hmm, it is a hard one.

if they have followed manufacturers instructions, then it is a manufacturing problem.

I would ask for a letter form them detailing what exactly they used so you can go to manufacturer.

The return to shop as not fit for purpose because when cleaned according to their instructions (as evidenced by the letter) it lost colour.

There are different dry cleaning solutions, and some instructions specify which one, so you need confirmation from the cleaner as to what was used.
