Certified ID for executor for release of Will

My mum died in December and her original Will is held with local solicitors.

They have advised that I need to have some photo ID and proof of address in last three months (I have both) certified by a local bank or solicitors for it to be released to me.

I have friends who are solicitors, but it sounds like I need to make an apt with a firm in order to get this certification.

Has anyone done this before? Do I just contact a local solicitors and explain what I need certified ID for?

I'm guessing that my bank will be too busy with face-to-face apts that customers need for their finances to do this, but maybe not.

TIA

I worked in a solicitors a few years ago, people would call up and ask, we would check to see if any solicitors (usually more junior staff) were available and then set a rough time for them to come in. It is usually £5-£10 in cash.

I wouldn't just turn up without calling particularly as it may be the case that a lot are still wfh.

Getting copies certified is normally an alternative to sending the original in the post. If they are local solicitors, couldn't you just make an appointment to show them your original passport and proof of address? Do they actually know you are local?

You can go in with the original ID if you are near by which is just as commonly done.

Thanks all. I'm not particularly local, but am travelling to the area regularly as I'm sorting my mum's house out.

I'll see how easy it is to get an apt with a local solicitors and if it's tricky because people are wfh, I'll call to make an apt with my mum's solicitor to take in ID and organise my next trip up around that.
