OK , so long story short but myself and a few others attended a sporting event at the weekend like most weekends, a family member of my partner turned up and drove home after drinking all day, not that it makes a difference but he didnt just drive down the road, the journey back was 3 HOURS AWAY, featuring about 3 different motorways, my partner and i are horrified, he was that wasted it took him a hour to find his car, i couldn't stop him at the time as I was already on a coach home at this point ( a coach that was about £20 for a return journey.... yeah I know ), but when I heard this my anxiety just leapt up, HE COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE and it will be on my conscience for the rest of my life if he did, he is not the kind of person you can talk to as in his eyes he will be doing nothin wrong, to be honest my partner and I are not massively keen on the bloke anyways, I understand he is coming to another sporting event this weekend that is about 2-2.5 hours away, if he is to do the same again , what should i do ? call the police as in 999, Will they care and will they be able to do anything as its a long distant journey, and would it be dealt with in a way that wont suggest I've called myself? any advice appreciated, not been dramatic but I have been crying all weekend over this, I appreciate drink driving wasn't so much an issue when said person passed test however there is such a large volume of traffic on the roads these days, and motorways are barely lit, just why would you do it?

I'd have reported to the police.

As someone who sibling was killed by a drunk driver I would have absolutly no hesitation in informing the police, giving their name,registration number and proposed route home, Trust me when I say you cannot imagine the heartbreak and devistation he will cause if he hurts or kills someone.

Sorry but what precisely was your reason for not reporting this piece of shit to the police at the time?

I had no reg at the time of the vehicle, I am going to make sure I have it and a picture of the car before next week.

Crimestoppers says that if you know someone is drink driving regularly you can report via their online form (so you could fill it in now, give them his details, and give specific information on the upcoming weekend's event and timings) and that if you witness drink driving in real time you should call 999. In your position I'd go for the reporting in advance online as even if he doesn't drink and drive at the weekend he'll be on their radar.

Agree with this, report in advance and also be prepared to report on the day. Totally unacceptable and you should do everything you reasonably can to stop this happening.

@Sophiak70
Call 999 as soon as you see him do it.
You are certainly doing the right thing.
