Transfer of warranty

Wonder if anyone can advise me on this.

We bought our house last year, and the previous owners had replaced the doors and windows a few years prior.

I called the company who installed them to get the warranty transferred, and after a lot of faffing, they told me they can't transfer it because they have now stopped manufacturing one of the doors, so wouldn't be able to replace any of the parts.

I don't understand how this could be legal. If the previous owners had had a problem with that door, presumably the company would have had to replace the whole door with one of their current products. I understand that they wouldn't want to do this because it would cost them money, but they would have had to. So whilst I can see how they wouldn't want to transfer the warranty because it gets them out of finding themselves in that position, but is it legal for them to refuse to do so? What about all of the other doors and windows they installed??

Yes, it is legal. The warranty is a contract between the previous owners and the supplier. The supplier does not have to transfer it to you.

Equally, the people who sold you the house could contact them on your behalf, if they were prepared to.

Whether the warranty is transferable or not will depend upon its terms.
