Home insurance renewal refused and ongoing claim

Hi, i'm wondering if anyone can help me with what we can do next.
In August of this year we started a claim with our home insurance company as we noticed a diagonal crack on an external wall that also has a crack mirrored internally. This claim is currently ongoing and a subsidence surveyor has been sent out to look at it and we are awaiting further investigations.

My home insurance is due to renew at the start of November and I have had an email from our company to say they won't be renewing our insurance. I phoned up to ask why and if it is due to this ongoing claim. They stated they cannot tell me why, the underwriter has refused to insure us but some kind of legislation means they don't have to tell us why? Is this right?

I also am struggling with how I can get a new home insurance policy. If I go on home insurance comparison websites, there are lots of questions about current issues like cracks and subsidence but I do not have the answers for these questions because the claim has not been investigated fully and we have not had any work done yet. Would I put this down as subsidence for a new quote even though it is not confirmed subsidence?

There are also questions on the comparison sites about whether we have ever been refused insurance (which we now have, by our current insurer refusing to cover us after the renewal date), but I don't have the reasons for this as our insurance company is refusing to tell me why they wont insure us.

I have no idea where to go from here!

You'll need a specialist broker to seek the quotes for you. It will need to be done by phone call and it's not as simple as ticking boxes on a website, but they'll help you.
I got cover following a subsidence claim and my then insurers hiking the premium beyond reach.
Suggest you try someone like Quotezone. I've found them helpful.

It's obvious why they won't reinsure you. Potentially you could have a very expensive subsidence problem and they'd rather not be liable for anything else if they can help it.

I used to work in home insurance and there was an agreement that you would continue to offer insurance in the event of subsidence otherwise loads of people would end up uninsurable. I don’t know if that’s changed but might be worthwhile asking a broker..
