Thinking of drawing up a will,

Partner but not married, Ds who is 3.
House in my name can I leave half each?
Does this seem sensible?

What else do I consider

You need to consider

what happens if you both die at once - both financially and who will look after dc
what about future children
how you would feel if you died, and your partner met someone new and they benefited from your house rather than your dc
who you want your executors to be
who you want trustees to be if you died when child still a minor
at what age you would like your child to be able to access funds if still a minor

I'm sure there are lots of other things.

You have to assume that your partner will instantly run away after your death, marry somebody awful then expire instantly themselves.
Your will needs to provide financially for your child in such a way that neither partner nor new wife could impoverish them.
However you also need to ensure that your partner can remain in the family home.
You need a solicitor. They will assume all the worst scenarios and work this out.
If you have items of jewellery or antiques etc you want to go to specific people you can draw that up too.
Any charitable donations you want to make?
It's also usual to specify your funeral/burial/cremation wishes

We had great service from Mumsnet's own @mumblechum0 aka

https://www.marlowwills.co.uk

who walked us through these and a couple of other scenarios before drafting out wills for review and then signing

It's such a weight off to know we have wills in place.
