Hi, a kitchen supplier and fitter failed to complete the work to a reasonable level and within specified timeframe - fitters we’re unreliable and work did not get completed on time so I had to get another tradesmen in to finish the work. The original company is now asking for me to pay the balance. Is it fair me to stand my ground And say no?

Did you make it clear to the supplier that it was important that the work was completed by a particular date? If not, did you give them a second chance to complete the work?

When you say they didn't complete the work to a reasonable level, do you mean that the workmanship was substandard? If so, did you give them a chance to fix it?

Thank you for replying!

Yes on both accounts, time scales kept slipping, fitters didn’t turn up on a number of occasions, it had an affect on other suppliers. And yes I gave them chances to fix it. By the time they were ready to come and resolve, almost a year later I didn’t want them back in my house.

Are you the person who used go fund me to do this?

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean or have you posted on the wrong thread?

No, I was asking if you were the poster who used gofundme for their renovations. My advice would be vastly different if you are.

4everHome · 01/10/2021 16:07

Oh god no, I’m not that person, who would do that?

In that case you are entitled to a reduction from the full price for the work they didn't do and for any remedial work required. So, provided the amount you are withholding isn't excessive, you should stand your ground.

@4everHome

Someone with a disabled child who needed to renovate so their child could move around their home.

Not really sure why the response would be different with money raised for the work. They didnt complete the work, someone else had to come in and do it. You need to pay for the work they did do, so go through their quote and pay up to that stage.
