Solicitor lost all my documents

Hello all,
I need some advice. My lawyer lost all my documents. He called me yesterday and asked me did I receive my documents? I was shocked not to receive it. He sent me the 2nd of June 2021. Including my passport and my son’s passport and his birth certificate and all tax credit letters, child benefit letters, council tax, birth certificate, my son’s medical record etc, He checked with Hermes and they said they delivered to my shed which I don't have a shed. The solicitor said he is waiting for the response from Hermes and will update me.

Please give me some tips here about what I must do, I'm devastated. It takes me a lot of money to replace two passports. I would like to know your opinion. Besides, I live in England.

Regards
Angeli

The courier company has lost your documents not the solicitor.

That’s very odd.

Why did the solicitor phone you end of September regarding documents he sent begging of June?

RedHelenB · 25/09/2021 14:13

Solicitors should get compensation from Hermes which they should then pass on to you so you can order new documents. Though really they should have sent them recorded delivery with the post office.

I think you need to check that you do not become the target of an identity theft.
The solicitor should surely have sent your documents by registered post.
Unbelievable they would use Hermes, I wouldn't send a £10 gift with them.

Worth pointing out that recorded delivery has just as much chance of getting lost as ordinary Royal Mail deliveries. It doesn't go by any more secure process. The only difference is that it protects the sender from the recipient denying that they received it.

They should have been sent via RM special delivery. What kind of solicitor uses Hermes?

QueenBee52 · 27/09/2021 06:14

Christ this is shocking

Soontobe60 · 27/09/2021 06:16

They didn’t send them using Hermes. No chance.

PragmaticWench · 27/09/2021 17:13

They should have been sent via a signed-for special delivery service, that's an outrageous way for the solicitor to have handled it. Aside from dealing with the courier company you need to start a formal complaint with your solicitor's company.

Northernsoullover · 27/09/2021 17:15

You don't need to deal with Hermes. That's on them.

Depending on what it is we are sending, we often use couriers in our firm. That being said, if I am renting important documents like you have stated, I send recorded or special delivery, and check the reference number given to make sure they have been delivered.
I would ask the solicitor for the delivery details/confirmation of delivery and take it from there x
