How long for beneficiaries to inherit?

A friend had massive delays getting probate granted last year but I think covid was a big part of that, not sure how much it could still be impacting now. I know it could be a wide window, but if for example Person A is to inherit a lump sum, as are Person's B, C and D, with the 'rest' including property to go to Person E, how long may you expect it to be for Persons A-D to receive their inheritance, even a ballpark?

Probate can take a year if there is a lot of paperwork (eg lots of different bits of money in different places & disorganised) or longer if there is property to sell.

Pre-Covid, it took ten months for us.

It depends on who's doing it and what the assets are.

I'm executor for DH who died 3 months ago. I haven't even started looking at what I need to do to get probate yet. There's no urgency and frankly, I don't want to. No one's waiting on any large sums but I doubt I'd be rushing for them if they were.

It depends on what the assets are. A lump of cash in a bank account is relatively easy to distribute once probate is granted. A house that needs to be sold takes longer.

My father died October last year, my mother in March this year. Straightforward wills but not got probate for my father yet, let alone my mother!
Goodness knows how long it’ll take, house sold but cannot proceed.
It’s a fecking nightmare.

Took 16 months to inherit a cash sum. No house sale required.
Covid obviously slowed things down.

Depends on how quick people are in dealing with stuff
My parents passed away last month ago
I’ve already began the process of probate
I’ve shut bank accounts
Sorting out life insurance policies
And within the next few weeks start thinking about putting the house up for sale
But I’m the executor of the will so it’s easy for me to do and sort out with the beneficiaries
But I still expect it take around 6 months -9months before the house is sold and the beneficiaries get the money

I was person E in this example and the lump sums were paid out within about 4 months

18 months for me pre covid

Mil died last October. We have been told it will be Christmas at the earliest for probate to come through. No property, just bank accounts.

Geamhradh · 18/09/2021 06:51

My mother died June 20, probate granted August 21.
I've received the Land registry document (this week) and been told the actual money will be "some time yet".

How long it takes depends largely on the will (pardon the pun) of the executor. Some people will hold up the process if it suits them to do so. Who is the executor? Is it one of the beneficiaries?

Pre Covid my mum passed away end of Oct
I sent the probate stuff off end of Dec and got probate certificate first week in February
