Birth certificate and provisional driving license

I have name changed and won't go into my situation in full as it spans huge amounts of info / history.

I have a passport, a current account and live at an address where my bank statements etc are sent. I live here with my partner, if that is at all relevant...might be because his name is on the bills and not mine. I get my HMRC paperwork sent here and am on the electoral roll. I am registered on the council tax as well.

Sadly I come from a very abusive family background and my DM in particular has an absolute mania for control that is unbelievable.

I have been very affected by all this behavior over the years so am currently not as confident and assertive as I otherwise might be.

My DM has my provisional license and my birth certificate and these documents are part of a very concerted campaign of control and blocking me in to certain things.

I know some people might say barrel round there and demand them back or call the police but I am hoping there is another way.

I am wondering how important it is that I have both of these documents? What kind of things can it affect?

Also, how can I (without directly involving my family or the police) get replacements?

Thank you.

Just report them lost, people do lose these and get replacements.

It's actually very simple!

Just order a replacement? Anyone can order a birth certificate copy, and for the driving licence you fill in a form, pay the fee and they send you a new one (I thought I had lost mine and ordered a new one, no questions asked at all).

Replace a lost driving licence

Replace birth certificate

I'm quite baffled that you've let this hold you back tbh! It's very very easy to sort out.

Thanks for the reassurance guys :)

and thank you for the links @FlufferPupper I know it's not great but with so much else going on I have got a bit lost. One step at a time I'll get there!

I have an exDP with ADHD who, no kidding, used to lose his cashcard/license/passport at least annually. He was forever replacing them. It's surprisingly easy!

I can see why you’d think it’s complicated if you haven’t done it before - hopefully it will help you move forward Flowers

Presumably you moved out since getting your provisional licence? You are legally required to keep your licence up to date with your current address. I must be on my 10th one. Just go to the DVLA site and go to driving licences, then select 'tell the DVLA about a new address'. The replacement licence is free.

If your licence has your current address on, report it lost, and pay for the replacement. And don't ever give your mother your personal documents again.

Order a copy of your birth cert here.
