Understanding a will; I think I need some help but where do I go?

My DM has given me her will. It's fairly straightforward I think although there is an issue we'd like to clarify.

I've called the firm of solicitors whose stamp in on the will and they are no longer doing wills.

Will I contact any local firm?

Any idea how much it will cost?
The will is just 2 pages long and I understand most of it but need clarification on 1 point.

TIA

Any firm that does probate work should be able to advise. The cost will depend on the complexity of the issue.

Is it something we could help with on here? I am not a solicitor but I am sure there are some on MN.

NinaBallerinaShoes · 18/08/2021 16:57

Is it signed by DM and witnesses? Is it a legal document?

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 18/08/2021 17:55

It is a signed and witnessed.

If it is a straightforward query you might get some pointers if you put the language on here although.

GintyMcGinty · 18/08/2021 21:02

Can you not just ask your DM about the issue?

thecognoscenti · 18/08/2021 21:05

Write the wording out here OP and someone will be able to clarify I'm sure.

NoSquirrels · 18/08/2021 21:08

Just put the wording on here, exactly as it’s written,

@GintyMcGinty

Can you not just ask your DM about the issue?
What her darling mother hoped to convey doesn't really matter - it's what the words actually mean legally.

Thanks for all the posts.

After more thought and speaking to DM, she’s decided that proper legal advise is needed as it does appear that the will needs rewriting.

If you would like to cut and paste the clause (without individuals’ names), I can translate to plain English
