Beneficiary of will - is debt deducted from our inheritance

My uncle recently died and has left me £20,000. I'm not the executor so have not discussed with solicitor etc. I have a £2000 ccj that I'm paying off in installments. Will the remainder of the ccj be seized from the inheritance or does this only apply to bankruptcy? We are in Scotland if this makes any difference.

I don’t know, however paying off your ccj early with the money will vastly improve your credit rating.

LuluJakey1 · 08/08/2021 20:13

Well that would make sense- you'd be rid of the CCJ and the debt. Is that not what you want?

Deedoubleyou · 08/08/2021 20:17

Yes I want it to! Just didn't know if it happens automatically or not.

I think you have to declare to them you've received some inheritance and they then take it from there
I think you can get in trouble for not doing this and carrying on with the ccj. It's in the t&cs x

It won’t happen automatically.
When you receive the inheritance you can then take steps to pay it back
