Experiences of reporting notifiable medical condition to DVLA

Just that really, sent off the paperwork for my husband yesterday. He was not given the instruction to not drive by the hospital and rang his insurer to tell them that.
He hasn't driven yet as still recovering but is expected to make a full recovery and after removal of his stitches, has no follow up appointments.

Hi there
I was told by my doctors I had to let the DVLA know of my condition. DVLA wrote to the doctors and I was issued a 1 year licence. I was able to carry on driving whilst waiting for them to finish their investigation. Towards the end of that year they wrote to me again and I declared the same info and they did another investigation and issued me with a 3 year licence and the process was then repeated again and another 3 year licence was issued. I was able to continue driving and there was no cost to me.

I have a reportable medical condition (MS). I informed DVLA when I was first diagnosed, they investigated wrote to Neurologist etc, issues a licence for 3 years, with the caveat that I needed to inform them if my circumstances changed.

At the end of the 3 years, filled in the firm again, they checked with Neurologist again, issued a licence for 5 years.

It takes a while to hear and in my experience if you call them they aren’t particularly helpful. You can continue to drive as long as you consultant thinks it is ok and you feel safe, before DVLA advises.

I have not had to pay for the licences either.

Good luck I hope your DH is feeling better soon.
