Do I have to tell the bank I'm pregnant?

Currently pregnant with second baby. Got AIP, offer accepted on a house and so now going through the full mortgage application. Had the first meeting with our mortgage advisor (second meeting next week) and at no point did a question come where I might mention I'm pregnant. Do I have to tell them? I realise our financial situation will change but only temporarily. I'm worried it will change their offer. Any advice on the legal side of things would be great.

I'd not say anything tbh

JayAlfredPrufrock · 30/06/2021 21:51

Nope.

bellsbuss · 30/06/2021 22:03

Don't tell them

GettingItOutThere · 30/06/2021 22:08

100% no

I used a broker years ago heavily pregnant, he said nothing and neither did i. We both knew I was very pregnant.

But no, say nothing!

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 30/06/2021 22:12

No. Say nothing.

VimFuego101 · 30/06/2021 22:14

No, they can't ask outright even if it's obvious. If you tell them they will need to take potential extra costs such as nursery fees into account for your application.

IanHBuckells · 30/06/2021 22:16

Say NOTHING

BertieBob · 30/06/2021 22:16

I'd keep quiet. I bought our house whilst pregnant. I tried avoided face to face meetings towards the end, just in case.

delilahbucket · 30/06/2021 22:19

You don't have to, but if you are asked whether there are any expected changes in your income or circumstances, you are required to answer truthfully. Failure to do so can cause you all sorts of problems, even down to losing your home.

DennisTMenace · 30/06/2021 22:38

@delilahbucket I answered truthfully that I didn't expect changes when pregnant and remortgaging. I knew I would be returning to work on the same hours as before. Mat leave would be covered by a full pay part and then statutory topped up with savings and no wild spending. I returned at 9 months, so didn'thave any point with no money coming in. Deliberately went through a broker so the bank wouldn't see me all pregnant and potentially discriminate.

MaggieFS · 30/06/2021 22:47

As long as you have answered truthfully then don't worry. Are you sure there wasn't a question along the lines of 'are there any reasons your financial situation may change in the future?'. We had this when we remortgaged last year. We had to confirm I would return to work after mat leave on the same terms plus share out forecasted childcare costs and it was all fine.

Whuut · 01/07/2021 06:31

Thanks everyone. I'm lucky in a way as covid has meant everything is online/via phone at the moment. They definitely didn't ask any question like that @MaggieFS but, whether they do in the next meeting, I dont know.

We have savings which will top up mat pay if needed, I will probably have to go back to work after 9 months which is fine and childcare wont change as our toddler will get 30 free hours by the time the next baby needs to be in nursery.

Thanks for all the replies, I was sure I had to tell them!

You don’t have to tell them but you do have to answer questions truthfully and not deliberately conceal it when answering.
