Breaching paypal acceptable use

91Summer91 · 11/06/2021 21:15

I needed to make some extra money so sold some photos of myself online for payment via paypal.

This was early 2020 and not since.

I find my paypal blocked recently. The guy must have disputed it a year later?

I used a business account to protect my name etc and now my account is blocked

They want me to explain the transactions, what should i say so I don't lose my remaining funds

Tell them the truth?

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 11/06/2021 21:30

You need to tell them the content of the photos. They could come under considered obscene or the sexual nature clauses.

If your other funds in the account are from legitimate business activity then you may be able to get those funds released, but they will take the £200 off.

However, paypal sometimes refuse to return funds altogether. It's a risk with PayPal.

@RedHelenB The truth is breaching their terms of use which I am trying to avoid admitting.

@librariesmakeshhhhappen I have not used the account for anything else really so theres no other legitimate business activity. The photos would be considered obscene/sexual.

As its over a year later I didnt expect this to crop up. I kept the money there as a just in case.

Do you reckon theres anyway to save it?

No, if you kept the money in paypal, dont actually have a business and have never used it for anything else then those funds have been restricted and you probably wont be getting them back. You cant lie; they can just speak to the person who paid you.

@Librariesmakeshhhhappen darn!

Wonder why its come up a year later.

Thanks!

It could be a random check of accounts, and yours has been inactive for so long and the funds not removed that they've randomly frozen it and you're unlucky that you've actually broken their terms of service. Or, the buyer has realised it's not allowed so thought they'd chance complaining and getting their money back, seeing as how you cant reclaim the photos.

sittingonacornflake · 11/06/2021 22:02

Surely if it's been that long the buyer wouldn't be involved. Isn't there only so long (I want to say 3 months) someone can claim under the buyer protection policy?

When you say your PayPal has been blocked what do you mean? Has it been restricted? Permanently? Have they issued parting ways?

sittingonacornflake · 11/06/2021 22:03

Also I'm fairly sure they can only keep funds for a max of 180 days so you'll get it back eventually. For future reference (and for anyone reading this) it really is best never to leave funds in your PayPal account as there all sorts of reasons they can freeze them. I withdraw as soon as funds are available so I know I have it somewhere definitely accessible.

RedHelenB · 11/06/2021 22:40

Can't you juat say sake of photographs with no mention of what they actually were?

RedHelenB · 11/06/2021 22:40

Sale of photographs I mean!
