To ask MN a legal question instead of my solicitor?

Every email to my solicitor costs £20 🙃

I'm waiting to hear back from my ex's solicitor, regarding our financial settlement. A chaser email was sent on 11 May, and I was told they would get in touch when they heard back.

Is there anything I can do to hurry this along? I am keen to cut ties financially- we are already divorced.

You need to post this on the legal board to get proper qualified answers

Either message your ex direct or ask your solicitor to ring.

Grilledaubergines · 31/05/2021 19:11

Well no, not really anything you can do to hurry your ex and their solicitor along. Not without a further chasing email which is rightly going to cost you.

Babbly · 31/05/2021 19:13

Emailing them won't hurry anything along. If you're waiting on the other side then there's nothing your solicitor can do. The only thing you can do, unfortunately, is wait.

Does your ex's solicitor have an office locally to you? If so, calling into the office perhaps?

Disclaimer- I have no legal qualifications. I found doorstepping a useful way of getting responses pre-pandemic.

They won’t be able to speak with the OP. Professional ethics.

Ah well, I was afraid of that. He's already remarried, before this financial settlement, which made me think he might want to cut ties quickly, but no such luck.

We split due to DV. I won't discuss matters with him directly.

You could ask your solicitor to call his solicitor which might speed things up but you would have to pay for the time of your solicitor. (We resolved our divorce using solicitors but without any court hearings and by agreement between us which speeded up the financial side)

Maybe he reads mumsnet! Shock He's come back with an offer for settling things ASAP. Whew.
