Hi

I'm Looking for some advice please if anyone has the time to help?
For reasons I won't go into my daughter has decided she no longer wants to take up her room In a shared house next year. She has not signed a contract but did fill in an application form and pay a share of the holding deposit (£90) in February to secure the property. She has not moved into the property and the lease was due to start in September.
Can she withdraw from the application? I assume she will lose the deposit but if she hasn't signed a contract is she liable for rent?
Thanks.

If she hasn't signed a contract she can as long as she's happy to lose the deposit. It's ages away. No harm done 🤷‍♀️

Thank you @leeds2glasgow that's what I thought. Should she contact the agent in writing to confirm her withdrawal or just inform her housemates ?

I would think she needs to formally withdraw with the agent, in writing, to avoid any confusion later.
I pulled out of a student house share and the landlord asked me to find a tenant to replace me. That might be something the housemates ask your daughter to help with.

@BugPlaster thank you. They have had no direct contact with the landlord, only the letting agent, but I think an email to them would avoid confusion as you say.
