Tenancy due to start 1st Feb delayed til 15th due to COVID

There are tenants in the house I am due to move into (rented). I had signed a tenancy agreement to move in on 1st Feb. I had been told the tenants were moving out a few days before and it would be cleaned.

The estate agents rang today and said the tenants have tested positive for COVID and our start date has now been delayed til 15th. I have nowhere to live now - my old tenancy is over on 2nd Feb.

Is there any legal recourse here? I feel someone (current tenant/estate agent) is being untruthful here. I have already signed the agreement, paid a deposit, and also my first months rent.

I guess in the current situation this scenario is likely to happen.
Can you negotiate with your current landlord to stay on for a few more days?

your current landlord can't actually get rid of you without a LOT of legal stuff which won't be happening. Get in touch with him/her and explain.

this may of course bump someone else, but it's just how it is.

Contact Shelter and ask them what your options are and legal recourse if any.

They'll give you the facts relevant to which part of the UK you live in.
