Ex using my address and his sister name to obtain credit!

Hi

I'm hoping someone wiser than me can advise.

I'm currently 40+4 pregnant, single with a 3 year old. Baby farther is a nomadic sort of person and moves around frequently, but never into a legitimate homes ( caravans, sites or spare rooms). I moved into my own flat Jan 2020, he stayed with me until June when I asked him to leave. He was never on the electrol register while living with me.

With me only moving less than a year ago I often receive post from previous tenants, which I just repost back to sending, but making a mental note of the names.

Today my 3 year old son opened a letter, while I was in the loo. The letter was written to my ex's sister (full name) but with my address. I have never met his sister, but do know they are not on speaking terms.

The letter is to confirm credit agreement with a catalogue company. I'm so angry, by the looks of it he's taken out credit on my adress and used his sister name to obtain it.

Since he left Iv had 3x letters from the DVLA for him which Iv just handed over to him and never questioned why they were coming to me, naively. He doesn't even have a driving license/ past his test.

How do I approach this? I do inform his sister it appears he's taking out credit under her name?

Send the letter to his sister if you have the address. Its pretty bad that the checks obviously werent very thorough. Any more post for him return to sender unknown at this address.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I don't have her address and she lives around 400 miles away.. only way I'd be able to contact her would be social media.

Of course he is denied everything and made himself out to be a victim as how could I possibly accuse him of such of thing. I'm absolutely livid

Citizens Advice may be able to provide more legal guidance. You don’t want to have to deal with a debt against your address, in the future and resulting debt collectors. You can just explain, that you’re receiving post for people that you’ve never met and it looks like a credit agreement from the envelope. See what Citizens Advice suggests. You could also contact the catalogue company, to tell them there’s no one at your address of that name, so that they can investigate from their side.
