I reversed into someone causing a small dent and scratches , the driver was borrowing the car
We exchanged details & hopefully can sort things out but I’m just wondering what next ? Was the driver insured ??

Let your insurers investigate. That’s what you pay them for.

HeartZone · 02/12/2020 17:24

This is not your problem. Hopefully they still had cover.

LoudBatPerson · 02/12/2020 17:27

If either:

  1. Are a named driver on the car owners policy.
  2. The car owner has an any driver policy (rare outside of trade).
  3. Have third party extension with their own insurance.
  4. Have purchased a temporary short term cover.

Then they will be covered.

If not then no they were not. However it's for your insurance to work out/worry about, not you.

I am worried , he was borrowing the car I should have asked if he was insured to drive it . Can’t believe my stupidity I did check my mirror but visibility was bad
The other thing is accidents happen how do I know that I caused the damage ?

Whether he is insured makes no difference. You reversed into him. Your insurer is therefore liable for any damage you've caused to his car.

AgentProvocateur · 02/12/2020 18:00

It doesn’t matter if he’s insured. You reversed into him. It’s your insurance that pays for it surely.

Applejack87 · 02/12/2020 18:05

Yep I’ll be stung but he might be penalised too . A bus smashed into the back of my dads car through no fault of his own he was stationary the car was a right off & the insurance penalised him don’t ask

Why do you care if he’s insured or not? He won’t be penalised either. You’ve caused the crash not him so will be your premiums that go up. I’ve had 2 people reverse into my car and I’ve not paid any more or had it go up.

One week later and I’ve had one insurance broker phone me stating that I’d receive an email about the incident and a quote which I haven’t received yet
How long should I give it ? Ok it’s only been a week

How long should I give it ?

Give it? What do you mean?

You say a broker has called, have you actually reported this to your own insurance company?

BackforGood · 10/12/2020 21:57

Well, what did your insurance company say when you phoned them ?

Whenever I've had the misfortune to be involved in an accident, they crack on with taking the car for repair (or assessment) on that phone call. Generally get a call from their repairer within an hour or so.
