Faulty return advice

Hey, not sure whether I have been duped or not?

I purchased a faulty item of clothing on 27 October but managed to lose the receipt.

The fault was verified in store, but they informed me that the item had gone on sale since I bought it so they could only refund the current selling price.

I had my banking app and card details to hand so they could use that to trace the transaction and see how much I had paid, however the manager refused to look into this. I used to work in retail and I know till transactions can be traced and searched like this. They just cba.

I have lost out on £50 as a result of this. Is this legal? Google suggests that I am entitled to a full refund without a receipt as the item is faulty. The current selling price only applies to a change of mind return surely?

Send them a letter before action (email will do) setting out what has happened and how much they owe you. Give them a reasonable deadline to respond and say that you will take legal action if they fail to respond. If they don't respond you can then start legal action. The threat may be enough to trigger them into paying.

The biggest risk is that it sounds like you have accepted a partial payment from them. They may try to argue that, because you have accepted that, you can't ask for any more.
