If you are called as a witness to court, is your address read out? Just that really! Thanks

If you're anxious about being a witness you can also apply for special measures such as giving your evidence via a video link or behind a screen so you don't have to face the defendant

Actuallytrying · 27/10/2020 21:43

Yes, at the moment I have said no, trying to be strong, brave or stupid! We are moving away and didnt want our new address read out if their family and friends are watching the trial. I have also been told that the public gallery is likely to be closed due to covid,so that's one positive.

I imagine it depends on the court, but the courts local to me have very limited space in the public gallery due to social distancing. I believe some are closed. If I were you I'd check and ask for a video link. No prizes for being 'brave'!

Actuallytrying · 27/10/2020 22:12

Does a video link mean my face will be shown on a screen in the court? If a screen is used then do the jury see your face? I want to do my best so dont know if a screen would hinder the jury. I dont feel like I should hide, the people on trial know who I am and where I live, for now anyway.
Witness service have already made contact but it kind of threw me and all questions went out the window! I have a video call to look round the court as court visits have been cancelled.
Can I also ask (reference to your username), if you are a solicitor? Or if you know how long someone can be held in remand for? Is there a time limit, and what happens of there is?

In both circumstances the jury would see your face. The screen blocks the defendant from you. You can still see the court room and the jury.
Yea I'm a solicitor
You're testing me on my custody time limit knowledge! It's been extended because of covid so I think in the crown court it is around 9 months

legalseagull · 28/10/2020 16:37

There can be an application to extend the time limits but the idea is to have the trial before then!
