How long to buy someone out of a house?

Hi there,

Would anyone be able to advise me how long it should take to buy someone out of a house?

My ex started this process at the beginning of July.

I still haven't received any money and would like my lawyer to chase him.

I just wondered how fast this could realistically happen from start to finish. He has been approved for the mortgage so I don't really know what we're waiting for- and I'm suspicious he's stalling on purpose.

Any advice would be great

My ex bought me out within 6 weeks

Ah thanks for the info I thought it seemed to be taking a long time - it's more than 3 months now.

Did you specifically have to use a lawyer for anything? My family lawyer said I need to instruct the conveyancing solicitor in her firm, but I not clear what for.

My ex will supposedly be using a lawyer at his side, so I'm not sure exactly what I do.

I was thinking I just await the money coming to me!

My ex brought me out, took 6 months. He had every excuse under the sun. Blamed the bank etc 🙄

Ah thanks- did you need to use a lawyer for anything? Or was it all managed at his side?

A conveyancing solicitor does the legal work to remove your name from the title and mortgage

If he's keeping the house and buying you out, he should instruct the conveyancing solicitor to prepare the paperwork and arrange to have the funds transferred to you, but you may want your own lawyer to check all the paperwork to make sure it's correct

Ok that's helpful thank you. I will contact the solicitor my lawyer recommended and get that set up so there is no delay at my end. Thanks
