My data on search engines - does anyone know how I can get it removed

Can anyone help with my dilemma.
I am generally careful about my public profile. I keep my social media - Linkedin/Facebook etc very private, in any case I am not a prolific poster on any of them.

However I own a property that I rent out. It's in a block of several flats and the residents/owners formed a Right to Manage company of which I am one of the directors.
When I do a google search of my own name, the companies house website is the first hit and has my full name (inc middle), home address plus month and year of birth. I also have a reasonably unusual name so it's obvious that it's me.

Is there anything that I can do about this? In the era of data protection, I feel like this is a breach but because it's companies house, I don't know if it is or not.
Would anyone have any idea?

Companies House Information is supposed to be in the public domain. You can't hide who owns a business.

DelilahfromDevon · 13/10/2020 17:19

That's fine and I don't have anything to hide, however if you google my name, it shows my full name and dob without anyone ever going into the companies house website and specifically looking or searching for me.
I don't like the idea that anyone can google me and automatically have my name and dob to hand. From a identity theft pov, it's quite a concern to me.

You could give Companies House a correspondence address. That would get your home address off the public listing. But you can't stop them listing your full name and the month and year of your birth I'm afraid.

Ok thank you, that’s good to know albeit disconcerting.

I'm a director in similar circumstances. We have a managing Agent to manage the development and all directors are listed at their registered address. It is part of the package the Agents provide.

Your original paperwork by which you notified CH of your address will remain a public document. That's the way a public register works.

It’s not a breach, no.

They have a legitimate reason to use your data. This is something you should have researched more at the time to be frank. As other posters have mentioned, you could have used a correspondence address.

If you’re genuinely concerned about identify theft, look into CIFAS protective registration. Obviously turn on 2 factor authentication for all your accounts and ensure your passwords are secure.

I am in the same situation and whilst we do use the managing agent's address I really don't like having my month and year of birth so publicly available.

Wouldn't be surprised if the requirement for it to be publicly available predates the internet and back in the dark ages one had to search physical ledgers to find names!
