Public liability and garden wall

We're in the process of buying a house and one of the boundaries is a 14 foot high, 16th century Grade B (in Scotland) listed stone wall. There's an alleyway running alongside it which is quite well-used.

Obviously, we'll keep an eye on the wall, but should we have public liability insurance, just in case a bit falls off onto someone? Or if we get it inspected once or twice each year can we claim that we've taken sufficient steps to ensure safety. Or should we just not bother because it's not something people need to do?

Many thanks

It should be part of your home insurance policy anyway

Your home insurance should include property owners liability so if the wall belongs to you as part of this property then any damage/injury caused by the wall that you are liable for is covered. It may be worth making sure your insurer is aware it is a grade listed wall as this may affect your cover.

Thanks very much - I'll check that they're aware of the listing. It's just so old and quite big and it worries me as we're on the coast and it can get blowy. I'll also book a stonemason to come and check it over once we take posession of the property.
