Order delivered twice, still hasn’t been collected

So I ordered a tent a few weeks ago and 2 turned up a day apart from each other. I emailed the company the day the second was delivered and told them that I need it gone within 14 days as the box is huge and taking up a lot of space. If they didn’t then I will dispose of the item as I see fit.

Since I emailed, they have only replied once asking what day would be best for them to collect it but that was a week ago and I still haven’t heard anything.

Where do I stand? If they still haven’t collected it after say a month, could I sell it to get it gone?

If it were me I would give them a week to get back to me and if they didn't I would sell it on.

I know how annoying it is holding on to massive boxes for ages, you did warn them.

It isn't that simple. See the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977. This sets out the notice you must give the company before selling the goods. If you sell the tent you must hand over the money raised by the sale less any costs of sale to the supplier.

So basically if they don’t get back to me then they are using me as a free warehouse? It’s not even a small box we can just put out the way! It’s 1m x 60 x 60 and weighs 50kg so it’s flipping huge!! Emailed them again and still no response!

No, but there is a process you must follow.

You need to write to them setting out your name and address, the particulars of the tent, where it is held and the date on which you propose to sell the tent unless they collect it. The date you set must give them a reasonable amount of time to collect the tent. This notice must be sent to their registered office by registered post or recorded delivery. If they fail to collect it by the date specified, you are free to sell the tent. However, you must get the best price you can and give the money raised to the supplier after deducting any costs of sale.
