Splitting assets in a divorce

Can any one give me a rough idea how assets are split. Hopefully we'll be divorcing soon. I'm planning on buying my stxh out of the house. I earn more but he has significantly more savings than me. Does that mean I might buy him out for less?? Or do we just have to negotiate? Both planning on getting legal advice but just wondered if some one could give me an idea.

Have you got kids?
Do you have proof of his savings? If not can you get it?
I would imagine his savings would be taken into account as long as he doesnt hide them.
Depends on all sorts of things, how long you've been married, pensions etc.

1 kid, still need to sort out residency arrangements but I think we'll be looking at eow plus maybe an evening in the week but probably only 1 overnight a fortnight. Married 14 years, both got public sector pensions. I don't think he'll hide assets but I'll take pics of his financial info.

No-one can give a sensible answer on the limited information you have posted here. The courts will want to see that everyone has a roof over their heads and that the split is fair, but that doesn't necessarily mean a 50/50 split. A range of factors are taken into account. As you are getting legal advice, your solicitor will be able to tell you the likely split once they have a full picture of the situation.

Thanks for both the responses, I'll crack on with talking to the solicitor so hopefully I'll be more informed soon.
