Court of Protection

I have been told that I am being taken to the court of protection - a dispute over whether I am acting in someones best interests ( I have lasting power of attorney). As I work I cant get legal aid . I have been told it is very expensive - does anyone have any experience of such costs and /or know whether if you dont have any money you can represent yourself? Would this be difficult?

Do you know what it's in relation to? If you gave all the relevant paperwork and bank statements etc I dont see why you couldn't easily represent yourself. If you ve been a bit lackadaisical it might be worth getting a solicitor

If it's in relation to finances rather than health and welfare, the general rule is that costs are paid from the protected person's funds. The court can depart from this rule if one party has behaved unreasonably. In short, if you've behaved honestly then you won't be liable for costs. If it's a health and welfare matter then the general rule is everyone pays their own costs but, again, the court can order something different if someone has been unreasonable
