High Hedge Legislation. Anyone gone through the process?

My NDN have a high leylandi hedge. I think it’s made up of 8 trees and probably is 24 ft high at the moment.

We have lived here 4 years and have an annual battle to try and get them to cut it. We’ve managed, after threatening to get solicitors involved, been allowed to cut it down to 18ft two times (and we have paid for this). Last time the neighbour came out screaming at the tree surgeon and made him stop.

Our neighbour says it’s because we have an attic bedroom and he doesn’t want us spying on him. So his hedge needs to be as tall as our house. (Just to add we bought the house with an attic conversion - not something done recently).

Our garden is probably only 20ft wide so the hedge dominates. It’s blocking light into our downstairs rooms. The back of the lawn is dead - grass can’t grow.

We’ve decided we can’t go on with an annual battle and we need to do something.

When you talk to anyone about this they always say, “High Hedge Act” and think it’s a magic cure, but looking at it we have to offer to go to mediation, then if that fails pay our council £750, then they have to take action. They have to issue the notice etc. I wonder is there any point?
Has anyone used this process successfully?

In the alternative has anyone taken their neighbour to court for nuisance etc, in this situation, and been successful?

I haven't personally been through this, have you looked on GardenLaw forum for hedges?
