How many more chances to collect faulty goods must I legally give - can the retailer demand more and delay my refund?

I recently bought some items from a major retailer online. They are faulty, damaged and not fit for purpose. The retailer agreed to refund and arranged couriers to collect as the items are large and heavy. Collection days have been arranged three times now and they have not turned up. The retailer wants to arrange a fourth date and is refusing to refund until the items are returned. They are not really saleable but the retailer is saying they want to return them to the manufacturer. It is massively inconvenient to have to keep giving up days to this, lug hefty items around each time, and have them in the way, not to mention the hours on the phone chasing it up. I just want to dispose of these items now and be given my refund, which is less than £100. I think I have done all I can on my side, and the retailer is expecting too much to have a fourth day, but they won't budge. Does anyone know the legal position please?

Just to add, my bank has said I should definitely start a charge back dispute on my debit card, but this will take some time as they have a backlog and I would need to hold onto the items in the meantime.

No advice but I feel your pain. Hopefully this will bump your thread for you.

I have had faulty bulky goods for 3 months and the retailer won’t collect or refund me despite numerous requests. I have now taken this up with my credit card and am still unsure whether I can get a skip and throw it away even if I am refunded eventually or whether I need to keep hold of it and no doubt be in a similar position to yourself.

I hope you get your refund soon.

Thanks very much, @S75query . No advice so far, as you can see, but thankfully I have resolved it with the retailer in the meantime. They have finally agreed that they will refund in full and that we can dispose of the items. I got this in an email confirmation as proof too and will check that the refund does actually reach my account! It's great that it's been resolved at last, but it has been a blessed nuisance and has put me off buying, certainly a large item, with them again.

I wish you the best of luck in resolving your problem too. When I spoke to my bank about a possible charge back, they advised me to keep hold of the items until it was resolved, otherwise the retailer could say you were in breach of contract by getting rid of them and the charge back might be refused on that basis? HTH.
