Court sharing contact details

Morning

Hopefully just a quick question

Am a witness in a court case which is taking place over Skype.

I received the invite from the court clerk and it has everyone in the ‘to’ box.

Meaning everyone now has access to my email address. As in the person I’m giving evidence against.

I was asked to supply an email address for the invite to go to but in no way did I expect this to be shared with each participant.

Would my contact details have been available if it had been done the traditional way?

That should not have happened.

Contact details (your address) can be in the public domain in some hearings,

I’m presuming this is a civil case if this is Skype? Or is it criminal?

That’s a shocking data breach and definitely not allowed. You should have been blind copied in so no one could see anyone else’s email address but the sender.

It’s for a non molestation order. So civil I believe?

Thank you for your responses. I’ll get the day over and done with and give the evidence in support of my friend seeking the non mol and then raise a complaint afterwards.

I’m miffed. But I can imagine in her receiving the invite with her previously unknown (and her partners and family) email addresses then she’s going to be in bits.

That’s right civil then. I’m presuming, given nature of case, you are worried about your email being used to contact/harrass you?

Just practical advice I would email court clerk and say you are concerned about your email being known to other parties. Can the court recall the invite and resend with emails blind?

If you are worried that a party may use email address you can ask the clerk to make the judge aware of your concerns and they may give a warning to parties.

Sadly the invite was sent late yesterday, I picked it up this morning so the information is already out there 😕

Ok, but do raise with the clerk your concerns the judge can give a warning to parties.
