Where do I stand?

I've tried to Google this and can't make head nor tail, can someone who understands furloughing explain it to me.

Until the end of February I was employed full time, but on maternity leave bring only stat home. I returned to work at the start of this month on a 22.5 hour contract. I am working from home as is dh, but with the baby we are both struggling (both have a jobs that involve a lot of phone calls)

I spoke to the business owner (small company, there's only 6 of us employed, 7 if you include the owner and no HR team to refer to) to explain that I'm finding it hard to work with ds in the house, they were quite understanding and said they could hear in my voice how strained I was and suggested the business furlough me, also said its likely others will be too as the business is taking a downturn in work.

Now that's fine, and I have agreed to it, I understand I'll be getting 80% of my wages, but here's what I don't understand and need clarification on.

Will I be getting 80% of my actual wage as it is now, or will I be receiving 80% of what I was earning 12 weeks ago, which is considerably less seeing as I was on statutory mat leave?

Thank you in advance.

It’s your salary as of 28 February you get 80 percent of.

Thanks @Bluntness100 in that case can I refuse to be furloughed?
Thank you.

It is 80% of your salary, not 80% of your SMP. You may only have been receiving SMP on 28th February but that was not your salary.

Just to add, you can refuse to be furloughed but that could result in your employer making you redundant.

So if it's 80% of my salary does that mean it would be full time, which technically I was still earning or the part time salary that I would be paid in normal circumstances?
I haven't signed a new contract for the reduced hours yet if that holds any baring?

I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I'd like to understand.

I don’t understand the issue? You were full time till first march? It’s not eighty percent of your maternity pay, it’s eighty percent of your salary. Why would you refuse it, do you not need the money?

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 29/03/2020 19:26

There's no issue, I wanted to understand what the 80% was of.
Your origional reply confused me and I thought it was 80% of my mat pay. I just wanted to understand.

Interesting question to which I don't know the answer. Sorry.
