Employment law question

Hi

Not sure if anyone can help please.?

So 3 years ago after returning to work after my youngest was born another colleague had requested part time hours also so our employer suggested we job share the days hours which was fab for us both. One did 8-1 and the other 1-6 . In august last year my job share partner was signed off longterm and before the hours were advertised my employer asked if i would like to take them on as overtime so if i am finished at 4pm i am not committed to stay in work until 6 and it makes my job a bit more flexible in as long as i get my work done they are happy i go in late if need be as long as i do my contracted 5 hours a day. This has and is working fine. However after getting paid on Wednesday I realised they have cut my overtime rate. This was without either explanation or notification before we were paid i saw it on my payslip as they were distributed. Our manager was on annual leave last week so i have not been able to query it as yet.. but wondered if they are able to do this before i mention it. It will be Wednesday i speak to him as I am on annual leave until then but was going to maybe email or call him tomorrow if i had my facts straight beforehand. Many thanks.

Generally, no they shouldn't have done it. And certainly it should have been communicated well in advance.

But there may be an explanation or just human error. You won't know until you ask.

Many companies don't pay an enhanced overtime rate until you do full time hours. They may have been paying holiday pay per hour and now want to do this in blocks or as time off.
