Today I was stopped at a 4 way traffic lights. The light went green and the van to the right of me moved off same time as me. Suddenly the van braked hard and an adult male ran from the front of the van and into the front drivers side corner of my car. He wasn’t even at the proper crossing bit just running across I think to beat the traffic? He was carrying shopping which fell to the floor. I immediately got out to check the man he said he was ok and picked his shopping up, I asked him again was he ok and asked for his name. The man said he was perfectly fine, said it was his fault he was in a hurry and he was not hurt. I told him I needed his details just in case. But he refused rushing off saying he was ok. This was earlier this morning and I just don’t know what to do if anything.

To be honest, I’m not sure what you can do. You might report it to the police but what are they going to do? Is there a camera at the lights? How much time should they spend checking this out and who did anything wrong other than the pedestrian who didn’t want to engage with you. He knew what he had done. If you think it through, who could “do” anything? There is presumably no damage. To your car or the pedestrian. You cannot claim for a repair even if your car is damaged. You don’t have his details.

If it makes you feel better, inform the police but then that will take forever, you’ll have to produce all your documents and the chief witness ran off. I think you just forget it.

Just to be covered and for peace of mind I would inform your insurance company and the police, just in case the pedestrian claims against you (you never know).

Just the insurance company then. He ran into you. The police will just cause you grief.

DH hit a cyclist who said he was ok and cycled off. You're supposed to report any incident where you hit someone within 24 hours and might have to be spoken to face to face. We were going on holiday at 5am the next morning (this was late afternoon) and we might have had to go to the next town to a police station - but they arranged for a police officer to come to our house to speak to him.

DH wasn't in trouble. He might have missed seeing the cyclist but he's a weekend cyclist so has it in mind to look out for them. The PO thinks the cyclist might have been on the pavement and jumped onto the road to try to get ahead, and mistimed it. We didn't hear any more about it but at least we didn't have to worry about him being in trouble for failing to report an incident.
