Do we both need a solicitor for consent order

STBXH is having his solicitor draw up the consent order based on agreed financial split.

The settlement is in my favour for a number of reasons so I know I'm not being ripped off.

My solicitor seems to think they have to be involved in reviewing the order, discussing with me, checking disclosure etc and through to signing the order for which they want over £1500.

Given we have agreed the financial split, that I'm in agreement with it do I even need a solicitor for this?

In advice appreciated.

That’s far too much. Should be able to do it for far less. My firm has a fixed fee of £816 for that, plus court fee.

You dont need a solicitor if you are happy with the settlement. Worse case scenario would be being called before the judge to make sure you understand the consent order.

You dont need a solicitor if you are happy with the settlement.

You do if you don’t understand the draft order. I often have cause to amend draft consent orders because terms have been included that are onerous to my client.

Providing the draft order contains the details we have agreed between us I'm assuming I could sign and declare I've not sought legal advice?

I just don't see what I would get for £1500 that is being asked.

It would be different if we were arguing the toss over things but we're both happy with what has been agreed.

I just feel they want to make money out of me.

Solicitor will tell you it's necessary.. others will tell you not. .. if you are sure you are happy and sure you will never regret signing them go for it. .. any (even minor )) doubts get a lawyer to check.

If you do ever regret the agreement you can't complain you were ill advised but will have saved £1500 .. only you one the value.

Ask your ex to pay your legal fee. I would always advise legal advice with consent orders.
