CMS and unemployment

My husband pays CMS every month but was made redundant about 2 weeks ago to which we notified CMS about the change. He has now found a new job which he starts tomorrow but his gross weekly earnings will not increase by 25%. We received a letter last week to say that he needs to provide a letter and proof to say how he will be supporting himself and us. It states that if he does not notify them he could possibly end up having to pay more etc. My question is - does he have to let them know or will HMRC let them know before the annual review on 3rd December?

There is a duty to notify CMS of any change of income greater than 25%. You've notified them of one. You now need to notify them of the other. I do understand that it is an offence not to notify them.

That letter sounds like the letter they send out when after the paying parent loses their job. If his new job is not 25% different than his old job then he’ll pay what he paid before. You still have to provide the details though.

You will need to inform them as it’s a 25% change on current circumstances and as you informed them that he was unemployed any wage he will get from new job will be more than 25% if 0 that they will expect if no job
