Difficult situation. I had a relationship with someone which broke down due to his pursuing of other women (irrelevant possibly) , and narcissistic behaviour. This man is (and was extremely wealthy) and left an item of his at any house. We are now 2.5 years over and have had no contact (I blocked him on social media etc) I have moved house this year, he has also married someone else, our paths will never cross again. He however attempted a couple of months ago to make contact (but due to my no contact he did not receive a reply). The item is no longer in my possession but where do I stand legally for an item that he left at my house (he was still visiting my house and could have taken said item away), also we worked together and he had opportunity then to discuss the item. He has rejected my claim and now I have to go to court. There is no way that I can go to court and face this man whose behaviour absolutely broke me emotionally, and tore my world apart. But what would you advise bearing in mind the time scale of events. Thank you! I have had to be vague on some details, somapologies!

You should not have disposed of the item. It wasn't yours. He may be entitled to damages for wrongful interference - in essence, you may have to pay him whatever the item was worth. If you want to avoid court you will have to make him an offer to settle.
