No Maternity pay

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone can help me please - I've been studying my masters for over a year not working and will now be giving birth early next year.
It seems like the only help i can get is child credit but due to my partners salary and having to rent out our 1 bed flat in order to move this would be taxed 100%

Is this correct and there is not income that I can claim?

Alex

Think you mean child benefit would be cancelled out , but do register so you get ni credits. You won't get maternity allowance or smp as you have not been working. Universal credit is based on household income so if your partner earns over £60k you are not considered to have a low enough income. If you have managed on one income thus far you should be able to again , at least until you can start working.

If your partner earns too much and you have rental income, can I ask why you need benefits too?

LIZS · 28/09/2019 11:44

Why can you not stay in the flat?

Check the entitledto website. If your household income is over a certain amount then you will be limited. You can claim child benefit but if your partner earns over £50k they will need to pay part or all of it back through their tax code.

If you are self employed for 13(?) weeks before the baby is born you can pay top up NI contributions and claim maternity allowance.

Why would you get maternity pay when you don't actually work?
