Can you change job in middle of mortgage offer

Just that really, I have been offered a new job, but we have not completed on mortgage. We're doing the help to buy government equity loan. We have just signed and sent the deeds back to solicitor.
Can I change jobs at this point? Or will it incure extra legal fees.
I am going to phone solicitor tomorrow, but just wanted to know if anyone has any experience/knowledge about this?
Thanks.

I would say nothing. Some mortgage providers will want three months pay slips.

Basil90 · 23/09/2019 21:13

I'd just keep quiet

IceCreamSunday87 · 23/09/2019 21:15

We've done all of that already, been accepted for government equity loan, been offered mortgage by the bank. Probably complete in next two months.
Ive read the lender can do final checks before completion and it would show up then?

New credit you take out between now and completion - yes. If they actually do a final check, because it would show up on your credit report. But what would you be expecting to show up where from changing jobs? I'd say nothing.

IceCreamSunday87 · 23/09/2019 21:21

I wasn't sure if they are able to do a check on your place of work?

No you can’t. Don’t say anything and it won’t be an issue.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/09/2019 21:40

You won't keep the mortgage if you tell them. There was a debate about this on MSE earlier because of someone losing their Thomas Cook job - I think it ended that technically you should tell them but you'll lose the mortgage if you do, usually until you've got three months payslips, and you might forfeit some of the money's paid.

IceCreamSunday87 · 23/09/2019 22:25

What would happen if I didn't tell them and they found out?
Is that likely does anyone know?

They won’t find out. They do rolling credit checks and do these randomly, but your employment status won’t be part of these. These are more to capture any large credit you’ve taken on.

Too late, my husband has just informed me he has emailed our mortgage advisor 😕

Thanks for your replies.
Morgage advisor has said it's a difficult one as there is a 50/50 chance they will do a credit search/request payslips again.
He said he wouldn't want to advise either way.
We've decided it's not worth the risk and I have sadly turned down the job offer.

I wouldn't turn the job down. When I was getting a mortgage in just my name on divorce the Halifax adviser put down I was willing to work more hours than I was and said not to say about being pregnant. I've paid every payment on time .

leghairdontcare · 24/09/2019 20:30

Did you ask the new role of they'd be willing to give you a start date further in the future? So you wouldn't start until after you complete.

rottiemum88 · 25/09/2019 05:47

Morgage advisor has said it's a difficult one as there is a 50/50 chance they will do a credit search/request payslips again.

Mortgage adviser was definitely just covering himself here. Have two friends who are both mortgage advisers with different high street banks. They confirmed a further credit check is definitely possible before completion but asking to see payslips again is incredibly unlikely. They ultimately have no reason to suspect your income would have changed from the payslips you already supplied unless you give them a reason to, whereas people taking out further credit close to a house move is quite a common occurrence.

SleepyKat · 25/09/2019 06:11

I was in this situation and never told them. They asked for pay slips and I just gave them my last three from my old job. It was fine. The new job had a probationary period so I knew they wouldn’t give me a mortgage if they knew.

hairtoss · 25/09/2019 07:54

Why didn't you listen to the advice on here op ?
I assume the new job is more money and you went to all the trouble of applying and interviewing etc?
Why just throw that away when you didn't have too?

PetetheCat · 25/09/2019 07:55

I was made redundant before we had completed! We could still afford to pay the mortgage on husband's salary although it wouldn't have been agreed on just his salary. We kept quiet, it was fine.

PetetheCat · 25/09/2019 07:57

Oh, I just read your update. Your husband has just cost you a job! What a wally.
