Lack of Care from MoD HR

Hi all.
I'm looking for a little insight as to what my legal standing may be in regards to a bullying issue in my place of work.
Long story short. I am the only Civilian in my naval base office (also the only female out of 10) and I unfortunately happened upon a WhatsApp group where the team were discussing me offensively (appearance and derogatory sexual comments). I was signed off work 8 weeks ago by my doctor as I couldn't face going into the office.

Since then I have had one meeting with my line manager who basically said he new nothing of civilian policies (he is forces himself) and he needed to refer to HR. Nothing further has happened. I need to go back to work tomorrow as my pay is being halved (even though this is my first instance of sick in the 2 years I have worked there) and I am still completely broken up by the men and their attitude about me.

What are my options?

Have you raised a grievance? If not you should do so.

Your options are set out in your contract and T&C's and relevant policies....

Sorry to hear what has happened. Are you in a trade union? Definitely contact them for advice if so. To be honest I'd be more annoyed at the poor response from your line manager than from HR - it's his job to stay in touch with you and support you while off sick (not HR's), and he should have contacted HR and/or a more senior manager more familiar with the proper civilian processes asap after you made your complaint which is a serious one and a potential disciplinary matter if your complaint upheld. You may find HR are not even aware, or perhaps have advised your manager they need a written statement or complaint from you before proceeding further, that would be the normal process but you are not to know that, you have done the right thing by making your manager aware.

I would get onto your intranet if you can, look for the bullying/harassment and/or grievances policy asap and find out the process for raising a formal complaint - there may be a form they want you to complete. But essentially what you need to do is clearly and concisely set out the facts of what has happened, how it made you feel and attach any evidence you have. If you can't get hold of the policy then you can just email it direct to HR or your next in line manager, or even post it if you don't have their email address. Make it clear you expect a prompt response. Good luck...
