Notice of enforcement- council tax- first I’ve heard of it

Just that.

Got a tremendous shock today- received a notice of enforcement for outstanding council tax on a flat I rent out. It’s for a 3 week gap in the tenancy (;I think) last year. We have little to do with the flat- an agent manages it.

Problem is- this is the first I’ve heard of it! The debt agency have told me that the council were writing to the wrong address so they’ve had to put a trace on and hey presto- enforcement letter I’ve just opened today;(

I presume I have no leg to stand on here as I should have told the council when I moved. But I moved area and it just didn’t occur to me tbhShock - the flat was rented at the time and I had no contact with the council.

Does anyone know if this will mess up my credit score? That’s my main worry - especially as this is just a mistake/error. If I’d got the letters I would, of course have paid it!

Also can I argue anything here with the letting agent who manage the flat for us? Should they be telling the council about gaps in tenancy?

Paybit asap and then take it up with the letting agency.

You think I could argue it with them?

If you don't pay council tax, I think you can get sent to prison, so be careful...

I’m going to pay it- but I was wondering about the credit score implications/whether I should argue with the letting agent about it.

Council tax isn't on your credit report. The only way that something like that would get on there would be if you didn't pay and got a CCJ

It should be in your management contract. When I’ve rented out flats before it’s been the agents job to let the council know who is coming and going - but it really depends on what they put in your contract.
