Hi
Last year our nd neighbour told us she had a leak in her lounge and damp had appeared. She asked us if we had damp too which we didn’t. The damp worsened for her and she consulted her insurers. They sent an engineer who confirmed no leak in her house. We had no evidence of leak but when her engineer knocked at ours, he found we had an underground pipe leaking. Long story, but the next day we arranged a plumber who mended the leak. As she had gone through her insurance we offered to pay excess which was refused. Now fast forward to this year and we are getting awful letters from her insurers threatening court action for negligence. Help

Maybe you should speak to your insurer as it is was not your neighbours fault that they had to claim

NoBaggyPants · 12/08/2019 20:27

demented is right, you need to forward the paperwork to your own insurer.

Your insurance needs to deal with it, did you inform them when it happened?

Ta22 · 13/08/2019 07:37

Yes I did, I started receiving letters from nd neighbours insurers demanding the money they had paid in repairs, they were all sent to my own insurers, but my insurers said not to worry and they would deal directly, however now my insurers are forwarding the letters they get from my nd neighbours insurers so I am still getting them albeit indirectly. I appreciate it’s not my nd neighbours fault they had to claim, but I can’t stand all the stress and threats of court action and am now thinking that I’ll just pay the claim myself

Why would you think that??????

It's what you have insurance for. They said they'll handle it and they are. You paying up out of your own money would be like setting fire to it.

munemema · 13/08/2019 08:40

So the insurance are dealing with it but you're being copied in the correspondence?

That sounds all right and I will proper to me, but you don't need to worry, I will just reply (if you want to) saying the insurance company are dealing with it, then which presumably they already know.
