Help re medical advice

This could be outing so I'm being very vague.
I have a medical condition (a lifelong MH condition) of which the specialists have suggested I only work a certain shift pattern to enable me to have decent sleep and take meds at a consistent time-the consultant has written to my employer. They have said they don't think it's possible to put me in this pattern yet they do the same thing for at least two people that I know off. Employed on and off bar a few months for seven years for this company (it's retail) and I have been completely honest with them about this. Where would I stand legally? Can they dismiss me? Thanks

You can request a shift pattern for medical reasons but if that shift is already allotted (eg to parents who have requested it) they aren't obliged, and in fact would get into legal trouble if they changed their shift pattern for you if it's in their contract. The important thing is to have consistent shifts rather than the timing, you can adjust your sleep schedule and medications etc to that permanent pattern.

I have to have the medication at 8pm at night every night. They have done it for people with physical illnesses I find it very upsetting
