Workplace bullying

I work with 2 people who are involved in an ongoing investigation into bullying. A customer came into work today and asked me about the investigation as the ‘victim’ had told him about the ‘bully’ and named her and given details of what she alleges is the bullying. I have reported the conversation to my line manager but they do not seem to have done anything about it so should I tell the ‘bully’ as surely she has a right to know what is being said about her as I would have thought both people should have been told about confidentiality?

Hmm I would be careful, you don't want to be shit stirring.
You've reported it to your manager. I wouldn't say or think any more about it.

I’ve rarely had to delve into the murky world of bullying and harassment but they are both allowed to know what has been said about each other. They’re both allowed to talk to people and name each other (depending on company policy) but shouldn’t be encouraging isolating of anyone.

You’ve told a manager, the manager should manage and frankly you shouldn’t be kept in the loop just because you reported something. The manager should have spoken to the victim and said that his friend shouldn’t be approaching other staff for details.

Unless you manage them, you have informed your line manager and now I would stay out of it completely.

Ok, thanks for replying, I will stay out of it and trust management to be fair to both parties

Most B&H cases are fairly complex (again depending on company) and are aimed to be dealt with at the lowest level. You may inadvertently cause another incident as you’re unaware of the detail. It’s the same reason once I’ve found out if somethings been dealt with I step out of it to ensure I’m not included in the bullying culture etc
