Hi all,
I've got a date for family court for the prohibited steps order I submitted re. my child.
Would you employ a solicitor to represent you or would you do it yourself?
Thanks

If I could afford it, solicitor every time.

Thanks, originally I thought I wouldn't as I feel that I could argue my case quite eloquently but now I have a date through, I'm panicking.

I know my ex will turn up mob-handed and if nothing else, I want support.

Solicitor. Peace of mind as well as attention to detail to stuff that us lay people wouldn't even think of. Mine was worth every penny.

Done ourselves. (I have drafted stuff and DH has self represented in court) numerous times over a decade for access to his children with a very 'the children are mine and you have no rights' ex-wife.

It has always been very straightforward as the issues we were arguing , contact, permission to go on holiday, opposing a move to a non European country were no brainers and of course we 'won'.

(But no one wins really as kids had to return to an angry mother who had been thwarted).

However, even though we have done it ourselves and never had an issue - I would definitely get myself a good family lawyer if it were easily affordable. If nothing else it good to have someone on 'your' side.

Where are you based? PM me if you don't want to put it on the main message board. We might be able to suggest a lawyer.
