My DS 14 has been smoking weed for a few months. We talked and I thought he had stopped.
Recently I did a random check on his phone and to my horror there are many, many text messages to and from his mates all about weed.
Not only is he smoking it but people are asking him to get it for him, including his girlfriend’s mum!
I now know the names and the numbers of a couple of dealers who he is buying from.
Is there any point in disclosing this information to the police? I’m aware that I would possibly be getting my son in trouble which of course I don’t want. However, I’m so worried about the fact that some messages from the dealers were about wanting their money back (I don’t give him much money at all because he is badly behaved) so obviously he is buying on tick.
I suspect police are only interested in the bigger fish - the dealers further up the chain, these ‘dealers’ from the text messages are only 15 / 16 years old themselves. It seems his ‘mates’ all smoke it and sadly it seems their parents smoke it too so it’s therefore completely normalised.
Should I do anything from a legal perspective? I have a lot to lose as my son doesn’t know I’ve seen all these messages, and I’m conscious that weed is rife and this is probably seen as pretty low level
