Hi mumsnetters :)
Hope I've got the righrt thread to post on . I' m looking for some advice on occupational health its a large company with in house medical centres and occupational health nurses who don't work directly for the company but are contracted in.
Basically my husband went to them last November/ December for some advice on something but also because he has on going health issues and mental health issues and was struggling ( the company for the past year or so has been making a massive thing about talking about and getting help for mental health issues having meetings every week for you to attend splashing it all over the workplace/ social media having talks bringing in frank bruno to talk about it etc so a big deal also saying you can talk to occupational health they're there for you 24/7)

So back to the subject lol. Husband went to occupational health on 3 occasions who to put it politely were useless. No help with what he asked for advice on and nothing was said or done about his medical/ Mental issues. Fast forward to now 6-7 months later there has been an incident at work and husband needed his medical records from occupational health health which he requested they have turned up and the last notes in there were from 6 years ago about mental health problems which at the time they were great about. So no notes at all from the 3 meetings last year :/ he has contacted HR who have been quite snotty she said that OH do not have to keep records or notes from all your meetings and providing you with no help also wasn't a problem. Oh aren't denying the meetings took place but are now saying something completely different to what was said :( So basically they don't have to keep records notes of any meetings so could have seen hundreds/thousands of people in the last 6 months with no records but can remember exactly what was said at the meetings. We just wondered if Oh have to follow some sort legal guidelines on record keeping etc and does anyone know where i could read/ print this out.
Thankyou in advance. :)

Take a look at this page.

That link relates to health surveillance, which broadly relates to working in hazardous environments. It's not relevant here.

Were the meetings attended for counselling, to discuss reasonable adjustments, or something else?

Occ health normally advise the employer rather than treat the employee, they're not like a private medical. Service, they don't provide treatment. Are you thinking of occupational therapy?

Our occupational health would advise where to access support, offer advice regarding how to improve your own mental health, advise on resources/websites that are available, then offer guidance to the employer regarding how they can support the individual and reasonable adjustments. There is counselling available but its limited to 6 sessions. The individual is expected to see their gp and access any support available externally also. The report is made available to them.
They are not there to provide treatment, diagnosis or ongoing support and counselling.
I would expect your husband has a right to any records they hold on him. Maybe he needs to do a Sars/ dpa access request or whatever it's called.
